Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA)

Phoebe Circle

Phoebe is believed to have delivered the book of Romans after traveling some 800 miles from Cenchrea near Corinth to Rome. Paul writes "I commend (or introduce) to you, our sister Phoebe," Then he introduces her as a minister of the church in Cenchrea and urges the church at Rome to help her with the matter that brings her to Rome, for "she has been a great help to many people, including me." The word translated merely "great help" or "helper" is a word meaning "a woman set over others, a patroness,"! She was not a servant in the way we think of a servant, but a wealthy woman with money to use to travel and to protect and help others. She served as a minister.

Phoebe Circle is part of WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) The Mission  statement for WELCA is ……”As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts,  support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.” All women of the church are a part of WELCA.

A group of women at Our Saviour’s meet for a bible study the 3rd Thursday of each month in the classroom here at OSLC at 10:00am.  All are welcome to join us. We gather for prayer and bible study from the WELCA   magazine called Gather. We give a free will offering and donate this money to support programs in the community. This year we are continuing the task of coordinating the funeral services at Our Saviour’s. The free will offering donation will be used to purchase items that are needed for supplies and food items for the funerals. If you are interested in becoming part of Phoebe Circle, please contact the church office at (360) 435-8921.
